Change: All Aboard!
Vashon-Maury Senior Center is getting on board. Our Board of Directors has agreed to join the Whole Vashon Project/Catalog with Rondi Lightmark, to create climate actions for the Center to help minimize the impact of Climate Change. Next time you see Rondi, give her a high five. This project is for businesses, individuals, and non-profits to commit to the actions they will take in 2020. A free catalog will be published early next year with our committments. The goal is for all of Vashon to dig into this challenging issue and share ideas with each other. Are you in? Our Board has agreed to the following efforts: 1) Increase member and public understanding of Climate Change related issues, through surveys, reminiscences by members, TED talks, movies and videos, local speaker presentations, posters, and Strawberry Festivals. 2) Reduce waste by adopting zero-waste principles for events, such as using cloth napkins, redirecting food waste to local gardens and composts, implementing reusable containers for take-out meals, and promoting worm bins. 3) Reduce the carbon footprint of the building by fulfilling recommendations of an energy audit and exploring options for rooftop solar. These are tangible things we can all do and we all need to get on board. We need volunteers to implement these ideas to help save our planet. As we see these changes being integrated into our daily lives, pat yourselves on the back for participating in this huge global effort. Our Seniors can lead the way, right?
