JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: VILLAGES PROGRAM MANAGER
VASHON SENIOR CENTER
SALARY: $25-$30 HOUR DOE
30-35 HOURS PER WEEK (some remote, some outside of normal business hours)
BACKGROUND:
The Vashon Senior Center is an independent non-profit serving adults 55 and older on Vashon Island, Washington since 1980. Our mission is enriching the lives of older adults. In 2020, just as COVID was declared a pandemic, the Center was awarded a four-year, $416,000 grant from the King County Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) to create a new program on Vashon. For purposes of the grant, a village is a neighborhood-based program, mostly led by volunteers and members, to provide services such as transportation, health and wellness programs, opportunities for neighborhood activities, social engagement, and help around the home in small, localized areas where neighbors can help neighbors. The villages will provide services in neighborhoods across Vashon and Maury, where neighbors can work together to make growing older easier. We believe no one has to grow old alone. We have completed the start-up phase and are now ready to bring the villages to life with active members and volunteers. This position will lead the implementation of the program.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Manager will take the villages program to the next step: organizing four neighborhoods into active, vibrant villages with an eye toward future expansion across Vashon and Maury. The Center is looking for a dynamic individual who delights in older adults. The position has many facets: part community organizer, part volunteer manager, part outreach and publicity guru, part cheerleader, and part grant manager. This position emphasizes outreach, deep listening, connection, and superior communication skills that will result in engaged, enthusiastic members, volunteers, and volunteer leaders. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. The position requires a minimum of 25 hours per week on Vashon; some remote work is possible. The program manager must be committed to the Center’s diversity and inclusion strategic priority and effectively incorporate diversity and inclusion into their work.
